My Uncle Denny

My Uncle Denny was my first friend... and a great example of what a friend should be. He asked for nothing but gave everything. With a quick smile and a kind word he could always brighten your day. He was your greatest champion and kindest critic.

My Uncle Denny loved to fish... but I think fishing was just his excuse to spend time with the people he loved. It made him happier to see someone else catch a fish than to catch one himself.

My Uncle Denny was a terrific brother... he perfectly balanced his role of fiercest ally and determined pain in the butt. There are countless great stories that begin with "My Brother Denny".

My Uncle Denny loved to catch shoplifters... He loved the chase, but what really drove him was his belief in right vs wrong. He truly believed in fair play, and would always help the underdog.

My Uncle Denny was an exceptional Uncle... He was always happy to see you. It didn't matter if you were 3 or 33, he made you feel included. His attention was equally spread across us all.

My Uncle Denny liked sappy movies... From "It's a Wonderful Life" to "Fifty First Dates", he was man enough to love the cheese.

My Uncle Denny was a loving Husband... He loved with his whole heart, unconditionally and without pause. He was sweet and sometimes corny, but it made you love him even more.

My Uncle Denny loved to wrestle... both a hug and headlock were equally affectionate gestures to him.

My Uncle Denny was a devoted Father... There was nothing in the entire world more important to him than his kids. His happiest moments were spent with Kate, Den and Luke. He shared in their victories and commiserated in their defeats. If you wanted to make him smile, you only had to ask about the kids. His love was written across his face.

The number of people who have turned out to share in our loss has only confirmed what we already knew... you could not ask for a better Friend, Uncle, Brother, Husband or Father.
